On saturday 1st oct ber Israel claimed that it attacked and destroyed what it called Iranian military objectives in the country. According to the Israeli military sources the attacks were very accurate however it was not mentioned as to what was attacked.
The statement by the Israeli military said Iran and its allies have been attacking Israel on multiple fronts for the past 40 days since October 7. “Any state including the state of Israel has the right and the duty to respond,” the statement continued. People living in Tehran stated hearing several explosions with the official Iranian media claiming they resulted from aerial drills. A witness said he heard explosions that affected at least seven areas near the scene.
In response, Syria said it had fired at ‘hostile objects’ in its airspace suggesting that the conflict could spill to a larger region. This strike happened within days of U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s recent tour of the Middle Eastern region where American diplomats called on Israel not to widen the destruction to Iranian nuclear facilities.
White House spokesman Sean Savett acknowledged that the White House was aware of Israel’s strikes, saying “We know that Israel is hitting military targets in Iran.” He has not gone further with details, telling the shocked audience that the Israeli government, should it wish to, has many details to give.
The airstrikes come after Israel vowed to give a stiff rebuff to a recent missile strike carried out by Tehran, which it said was in reaction to Israel’s operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon. This situation takes an existing “proxy war” amid Israel and Iran, enemies since Iran’s 1979 revolution.
After the strikes, Iran shut down its airspace permanently and some civilian airplanes had to change their route. Sources suggest that this was arrived at after consultations by Israel’s security cabinet coupled by a telephone conversation between the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the U.S President Joe Biden.
