Top leadership of NDA met at the residence of BJP President J P Nadda on Wednesday to mark the birth centenary of late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The meeting signified the existence of heavyweights where dignitaries like the Union Home Minister Amit Shah graced the occasion accompanied by a myriad of BJP’s allies.
Leaders present were TDP president and Andhra CM Chandrababu Naidu, JD-U’s Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Apna Dal’s Anupriya Patel and JDS’s HD Kumaraswamy. Other participants in the meeting were Bihar’s Hindustani Awam Morcha (S) chief Jitan Ram Manjhi, Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) chief Upendra Kushwaha and Bharath Dharma Jana Sena chief Thushar Vellappally.
While the explicit topics in the agenda were not disclosed, it could be gathered that some of these involved the topic to do with good governance and political solutions, topics well known to have marked Vajpayee leadership. Appreciated for managing to win a full-term coalition government for India, Vajpayee’s spirit of governance still propels the NDA.
The meeting also touched on the issue of the motion on holding elections to different posts at the same time, to which all members of the alliance have concurred. This is in line with provisions of the NDA to continuously conduct electoral reforms for efficiency enhancement. A JPC which is supposed to consider other related laws is to hold its sitting on January 8.
This meeting underlined that the NDA is firmly following the policy set by Vajpayee and deepening the support of key allies as well as concerning essential issues of the country. In celebrating and paying tribute to Vajpayee’s political achievements, the NDA wants to reassert its cohesion and program of government.
