Earlier on Friday, two more deaths occurred — one due to electrocution at Patharpratima in the South 24 Parganas district and another in Bhabanipur area in South Kolkata. These examples show the effect of Cyclone Dana which brought heavy rainfall and gusty wind which devastated property particularly in West Bengal and Odisha.
Cyclone Dana hit the eastern coast early Friday morning with wind speeds of up to 110 km / h. The storm began at 12:5 a.m. The immediated area is between Bhitarkanika in Kendrapara and Dhamra in Bhadrak district Odisha and the actual landfall occurs about 8:30 a.m. Heavy rain and wind induced blowing of trees, over-turning of power poles and destruction of nearly all classes of structures in the affected areas.
The cyclone’s storm and heavy rains have taken toll in many structures and crops, hence continuous survey and evaluation by the government. The impact of this natural disaster is getting addressed by the states of West Bengal and Odisha, where the group of emergency services is already deployed, restoring power, clearing roads and providing aide to people in trouble.
While response operations are ongoing, the state is now in the process of rehabilitation of the homes or infrastructure destroyed by the cyclone; the authorities are always observing the weather patterns and extending their support to those who were affected.
