Jammu and Kashmir: Officials in Rajouri district blocked a spring in Badhaal village, after 17 people belonging to three families died in unexplained circumstances. A chemical analysis of the water in the spring that supplies the inhabitants of the affected region showed traces of pesticides or insecticides, and immediate measures were taken to avoid other catastrophes.

It was also discovered during an investigation by the Public Health Engineering Department, Jal Shakti division, that the spring, which is a source of water for the village, is infected. After confirmation that the spring was contaminated with pesticides, people closed the source and the Additional Deputy Commissioner Dil Mir took measures to seal it.
Tehsildar Khawas was instructed to supervise this order, which prohibits villagers from taking water from the site surreptitiously. ”It is a matter of own and public safety, and we are leaving no stone unturned to ensure we do not have more fatalities,” said ADC Mir.
Security Measures at the Spring
All the above points indicate that the firm requires implementing sound security measures at the spring.

Tragic Death Toll
Since that day, 17 people from three related families have died in the village, 13 children are between three and 15 years old. This is because the causalities, have been happening in random and inexplicable circumstances that cause much concern among the residents.
Investigation Underway
County health departments, law enforcement agencies, and other search and investigation crews are currently working assiduously to determine the cause of the mysterious deaths. Although the water from the spring may have been contaminated, the officials are not ruling out any other possibility either.
The losses of people’s lives and the discovery of polluted water have raised aware ness among the community. Local governments reiterate the instructions of not consuming water from unsafe water sources while the officials work on the safety of the people’s health.
The sealing of the spring is one of the measures being taken under the intensive search for the cause of these mysterious deaths.
