NEW DELHI: As suspense continues over who will be the new Chief Minister, preparations for the swearing-in ceremony of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in the national capital are in full swing. The oath-taking ceremony ceremony is likely to be held on 19th or 20th of February, thereby enabling the BJP to regain the control of the city after 27 years.
Leadership Decision Pending as Modi Returns from Foreign Tour.
With the election results concluded, the BJP’s central leadership is gearing up to finalize the name of the new Chief Minister along with the cabinet members. It has been predicted that the selection process is likely to get speed up after Prime Minister Narendra Modi returns from his trips to France and the US.
After Mr. Modi’s return, major players like Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP national president JP Nadda and the senior leaders will meet and decide the government’s structure. The party will probably select a Chief Minister, 1 or 2 deputy CMs, and a council of ministers to constitute the new government.
Legislature Party Meeting to Confirm CM Pick
Sources say the BJP Legislature Party meeting will take place one day before the formal swearing-in ceremony. The central leadership of the party will post observers who will interact with newly elected MLAs for feedback in order to ultimately release a formal announcement on the Chief Ministerial candidate.
Manjinder Singh Sirsa an BJP MLA from Rajouri Garden reported, “The new administration will begin activities from February 19-20 following a Legislature Party meeting on February 18-19.
Senior Leaders Dismiss Speculation Over CM Race
Although there is increased interest as to who will attain the number one spot, senior BJP officials have defunded any speculation of an internal struggle for Chief Minister’s office. According to party sources, the decision will be taken as a systematic process involving MLAs discussion and not informal lobbying.
A senior MLA, on the condition of anonymity, stated, “There is no war for the CM chair. At our gathering, the CM (Chief Minister) or the leader of the Legislature Party is elected in the conference of MLAs (Members of the Legislative Assembly). The decision is collective and based on merit.”
Party leaders are emphasizing the importance of addressing key public issues rather than engaging in leadership battles. “We are focused on tackling important matters such as development, clean drinking water, and air quality. It is our foremost endeavor to make Yamuna water pollution-free”, the MLA further said.
Ayushman Bharat Scheme to be a Priority
Tords part of BJP’s governance agenda, the new administration is planned to give higher importance to implementation of the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme that was earlier put on hold by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government. Several BJP leaders have confirmed that one of the first decisions of the new cabinet will be to launch this flagship healthcare initiative in Delhi.
“The Ayushman Bharat scheme, which was blocked by the AAP government, will be implemented in the first cabinet meeting. This will provide financial security and quality healthcare to the people of Delhi, a senior BJP leader stated.
Return of BJP After 27 Years
This transition marks a significant political shift, as the BJP has been out of power in Delhi for nearly three decades. The party last held the Chief Minister’s office in 1998. Since that time, Delhi has been ruled by Congress and Aam Aadmi Party in politics. Winning a decisive electoral victory, the BJP is again on track to take charge of the national capital governance.
Meanwhile, the entire focus is now on the BJP leadership as the name of the new CM is expected to be announced. The decision is anticipated to guide the party’s governance in Delhi for the foreseeable future.
