Bhubaneswar airports and railway services began on October 25 while Cyclone Dana having effect on Odisha coast again. The Biju Patnaik International Airport resumed operations and the first flight arrived at around 9 in the morning. Operations were ceased from 1700 hrs on October 24 due to apprehension of the cyclone that crossed between Dhamra and Bhitarkanika around midnight. Airport Director Prasanna Pradhan pointed out that flights were restored a little earlier as a result of favorable weather patterns.
The East Coast Railway said out of the trains that were cancelled earlier, majority of them were now on track. As many as 2,030 trains had been precautionary cancelled or forsknown early as the Northeast monsoon stayed depressed over many areas of Tamil Nadu late on October 24, permitting train services from Bhubaneswar and Puri, except the cancelled routes, only after the noon of October 25.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that Cyclone Dana’s landfall process concluded by 8:Early at 30 am in the morning after a beginning at midnight. The storm began with wind speed of 110 kmph, tropical cyclone has now been downgraded to a cyclonic storm.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi declared that the state’s so-called ‘Zero Casualty Mission’ was achieved and there were no fatalities. Before cyclone hit it had shifted about six lakh people to safer places due to the cyclone. The Chief Minister commended the synergy that was evident in the rescuers efforts towards ensuring no human loss was recorded as a result of the calamity.
People started restitution in the first moments, referring to the fact that by 1 pm on October 25 the teams freed the roads that were obstructed by the trees. The electricity distribution networks that have been affected will be repaired, with power supply restoration expected to be effected by 6 O’clock in areas including Kendrapara, Balasore and Bhadrak which were more severely affected.
Further, and more importantly, the government successfully evacuated 4,431 pregnant women to safer health facilities of birth, and 1,600 babies were born during cyclone period all the mothers and the babies are said to be in good health.
