On Tuesday, Home Minister Amit Shah made it public that the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) will be implemented on the BJP-governed states through state-specific laws an based on the feedback from the model law has been implemented in Uttarakhand recently. He said this during a debate he had participated in the Rajya Sabha to do with the constitution.
Shah described the Congress party as having initiated Muslim personal law or MPL that he said began the process of appeasement during Nehru’s governance. He said that MPL violates the Article 14 Right to Equality and Article 15 Non Discrimination on religious grounds. Shah pointed out that even Babasaheb Ambedkar and Ram Manohar Lohia also condemned the MPL as unfair.
The Uttarakhand model law that will go through public analysis, discussions, and inputs before being adopted in BJP governed states. Shah reaffirmed this process would be democratic hence including all stakeholders able to address issues regarding the public.
During reservations, Shah said the Congress is planning to increase the removal of the 50% reservation cap so as to introduce quota for the Muslims which BJP does not support. He for example said that religion-based quotas are unconstitutional.

Incidentally, Shah did not talk about caste census issue which was floated by the Congress. He concentrated on religion-based quotas and accused Congress of circulating bad copies of the Constitution to heighten people’s change amendments fear.
Shah also come up for Vendanta against the criticism of congress leader Rahul Gandhi. He mentioned that Savarkar is a patriot knowing that Indira Gandhi accepted that he was a revolutionary.
As for accusations of EVM tampering, Shah denied opposition claims looking at BJP losses in this year’s assembly elections, particularly in Jharkhand.
Amid BJP ruling 20 out of 28 states in the country, Shah also stressed that protests would be minimized if UCC is adopted at the state level and such move would not cause any stir among partners. The party intends to upset the UCC laws incrementally across its states after given adequate public and judicial consideration.
