Ajith Kumar’s Action Thriller Faces a Tough Run
The eagerly-awaited film of Ajith Kumar, Vidaamuyarchi (Trisha Krishnan Arjun Sarja) is facing a box office failure. Although it has begun well, momentum has waned and its tracking is down significantly after the first Monday. Though on day 6 there was some increase, the primitive collection is still weak and the film has not come close to recovering the hefty film budget.
A Rocky Start and Sharp Decline
The Tamil action thriller that was directed by Majegh Thirumeni and released on February 6 had a four-day extended opening weekend, and it was a Tamil language film. However, it failed to capitalize on this advantage. During its first four days, the film could gather as much as only ₹63.25 crore at the Indian box office.
The real loss occured on Monday, when revenues fell to just ₹3.20 crore*, representing an 88% decrease compared with the initial day’s collection of ₹27 crore*. When compared to Sunday’s ₹12.50 crore, Monday produced 25% less ₹10.20 crore), indicating high audiences, then a significant collapse in audience interest.
On Tuesday (day 6), the film saw a slight increase in earnings to ₹3.35 crore, but the growth was too small to make a difference. So far, the net amount is ₹69.80 crore for Vidaamuyarchi which is from India which is a far cry from the much high production cost.
Day-wise Collection Breakdown
- Day 1 (Opening Day): ₹27 crore
- Day 2: ₹10.25 crore
- Day 3: ₹13.50 crore
- Day 4: ₹12.50 crore
- Day 5 (Monday): ₹3.20 crore
- Day 6 (Tuesday): ₹3.35 crore
- Total Collection (India Net): ₹69.80 crore
Massive Budget and Financial Struggles
The Ajith Kumar starrer is rumored to be a big-budget film the production cost of which has reached an enormous figure of ₹185 crore. Since the movie has extracted only ₹69.80 Crore net till now, it has recovered only 37.72% of the total cost. This creates a shortfall of ₹115.20 crore, which increasingly seems improbable to help the film return an annual investment during its theatrical release.
Based on the current trends it’s clear that Vidaamuyarchi is on the path to a flop at the box office. Although there may be small fluctuations in collections in the next few days, it won’t be enough to make up for the earnings vs. investment shortfall.
Worldwide Collection Performance
Even though it is underperforming in India, the film has been able to garner slightly more attention in the overseas market.
By day 6, the total worldwide gross of Vidaamuyarchi is ₹118.84 crore, and this includes:.
- India Gross Collection: ₹82.36 crore
- Overseas Gross Collection: ₹36.48 crore
Although it has earned through overseas ticket sales, the final amount is still a lot less than the budget, so it is obviously the case that the film cannot get back its expenses only from the ticket sales on the large screen.
What Went Wrong?
A number of variables may have played a part in the low box office takings of the film:.
While the film had a decent opening, it failed to sustain momentum, indicating mixed audience reactions.
- High Ticket Prices & Competition: Other films in theaters could have drawn off a portion of the audience.
- Budget Mismatch: With such a high budget, the film needed to deliver much stronger numbers to be profitable.
Final Verdict: A Box Office Flop?
Considering its declining collections and high budget, Vidaamuyarchi is unlikely to recover its investment, making it one of Ajith Kumar’s weakest box office performers in recent years. Except for a complicating force of a sudden increase in ticket sales, the movie is on course to end its theatrical career as a deducting affair.
