Although the Marathas are a relatively new team in the Indian football they staged their very first match in November 2012 against the Mumbai Gladiators. The battle was not just a historic strong point for Marathas; it also an opening match of the League annual season in India thus making major opinion in the evolution of Sports in India.
The much expected match attracted football lovers across the Nation. For the audience willing to follow the tradition of representing the spirit of Maharashtra, the Marathas took the field with a mixture of enthusiasm and tension. The Mumbai Gladiators which were representing the colorful city of Mumbai had the pressure of expectation due to the team strength & professionalism.
There were a lot of people in the venue holding flags and from each team side, people chant for their favorite teams. Right from the onset of the game those competing displayed great strategy and determination when the referee blew to start the game. Even being the weaker side in comparison to the Gods, the Marathas reputation for her organized and well co-coordinated team was underlined as they made the audience brilliantly impressed.
During the game both the Gladiators showed their acumen with perfect coordination and apt playing strategy balls over the Marathas had hard time in defending. But the debutants did not surrender and counter attacked back and more so due to the insistence of their supporters.
The match was ended with the small different in the score which exhibited the marshal attitude of the participants of both the teams. Even the Gladiators came out winners though there was a close fight while the Marathas provided good show and could have been a winner too.
This initial game laid foundation for the rest of the league and acted as a pathway to introduce the new Indian football. The Marathas’ story began with this match and went on to become the story of a team that despite all odds rose to the top to become champions.
