Social media platforms have shared videos showing a Ukrainian drone attack on Kazan, Russia. Videos posted on the platform X depict drones launching attacks on residential high rise towers, some of the commentators preferring to refer to this event as the 9/11 style calamity.
Up to eight unmanned aerial vehicles were launched for the attack, the press-service of Tatarstan Governor Rustam Minnikhanov reported. One targeted civil structures, six struck residential areas and one industrial building, and the last drone was downed over a river. Nevertheless, the officials said there have been no dead bodies found from the scene of the scene. Local emergency brigades had to remove people from their homes, and temporary shelters were provided for them.

As a response, the mayor of Kazan said that all mass events in the city would be prohibited during the weekend. The Kazan flights were stopped for a short period, which also affected the city.
The Baza Telegram channel, which includes direct links to Russian security sources, posted raw video of a drone attack on a high rise with a subsequent explosion.
These attacks occur at the backdrop of heightened tensions. Ukraine did not take the responsibility for the Kazan incident and has the practice of not commenting reported operations. This comes at the backdrop of the recent Ukrainian strike on Russia’s Kursk region where US-supplied missile claimed the lives of six people including a child.
More than 80 Russian strategies were shot down over Ukrainian cities on the night of February 16, and in response, Moscow launched 113 drones into Ukraine, as reported by the Ukrainian side. The Ukrainian Air Force said it had shot down 57 drones and another 56 had been electronically neutralized.
It forms part of the crisis that has been escalating the conflict with more impact on regional integration. Both sides retain a series of counterattacks while civilian infrastructure is used more often, the blow to the humanitarian front is raising question.
Saying that, with escalation, some international actors start to express caution as they know that any further provocation could spark a wider conflict in the region.
