Rishabh Pant has entered the IPL auction record books as the most costly player ever, bought by Lucknow Super Giants for Rs 27 crore on Sunday’s mega auction. This spell broke the record set by Shreyas Iyer who became the costliest IPL player ever a few minutes ago.
A few hours ago, Punjab Kings (PBKS) bought Shreyas Iyer for Rs 26.75 crore, which made him the most expensive player in the IPL history for some time. Iyer had replaced Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc who sold for Rs 24.75 crore in the previous auction. But Pant achieved yet another huge 1,000-plus score in quick succession erasing Iyer’s record in one go.
Pant moved to LSG after his former franchise, Delhi Capitals, declined to use their RTM to keep him. This paved way for LSG to sign the sensational wicket keeper-batter which became a record in the auction list of IPL.
Australia’s pacer Mitchell Starc was bought by Delhi Capitals for Rs 11.75 crore and England’s explosive batter Jos Buttler for Rs 15.75 crore joined for Gujarat Titans. Also, the aggregate bidding for headline performers was unveiled, with South African pacer Kagiso Rabada receiving Rs 10.75 crore bid from the Titans of the competition, establishing the cut-throat fight for acquiring the top performers.
Arshdeep Singh was secured by Punjab Kings through the RTM card by buying him for a record Rs 18 crore. The left-arm pacer, whose initial price was Rs 2 crore, was the subject of a fierce bidding war that began with Chennai Super Kings.
Opening his bidding at Rs 2 crore, Shreyas Iyer got a lot of interest from Delhi Capitals as well as PBKS and finally was pruchased by the latter for Rs 26.75 crores.
